Pediatric Personal Injury Chiropractic Care After a Car Accident

We are the leading pediatric specialty personal injury chiropractic clinic in DFW dedicated exclusively to children injured in motor vehicle accidents, from newborn through 18 years old. If your child was in a car accident, whether it happened an hour ago or a month ago, this page walks through exactly what happens next, what we look for, and how the paperwork side works so you can focus on your kid instead of logistics.

Why Children Need Different Post-Accident Care

A child’s body absorbs a car accident differently than an adult’s does.

  • Smaller frames and still-developing spines
  • Seatbelts and car seats designed around adult proportions, which means the forces of a collision land differently on a five-year-old than they do on the driver
  • A neck that carries a proportionally larger, heavier head relative to body size than an adult’s does, which changes how whiplash-type forces move through it
  • We built this clinic around evaluating kids specifically, not around adapting an adult injury protocol down to a smaller size

What We Look For, Even When a Child Says They’re Fine

Children are notoriously unreliable narrators of their own pain, and symptoms after a pediatric motor vehicle accident are frequently delayed, sometimes by days.

  • A toddler can’t tell you her neck hurts; she just gets clingier, sleeps worse, or refuses to sit in the car seat that used to be fine
  • An eight-year-old might say he’s “okay” within an hour of the crash, because adrenaline and the excitement of everyone fussing over him mask what’s actually going on
  • Neck stiffness, or a reluctance to turn the head fully one way
  • New irritability or clinginess that wasn’t there before the crash
  • Disrupted sleep
  • Headaches a young child may describe as a stomachache instead
  • A new dislike of the car seat or a specific riding position
  • Changes in appetite or energy

What the First Visit Includes

You can schedule a first visit whether the accident happened yesterday or weeks ago; there’s no window you’ve missed. Here is what that visit covers.

  • The accident itself — what kind of collision, where your child was seated, whether a car seat or booster was involved, and everything you’ve noticed since, even things that seem minor or unrelated
  • A chiropractic consultation and functional assessments
  • A hands-on chiropractic examination
  • Nervous-system scanning with our INSiGHT technology, for an objective look at nervous-system stress
  • A personalized care plan built from what we find
  • If we see something that needs care beyond what we provide, we have a network of pediatric providers we refer to rather than trying to be the only answer for every finding
  • None of this replaces emergency evaluation. Any sign of a serious injury — loss of consciousness, vomiting, confusion, worsening headache, or numbness — is an emergency room visit first, always, before anything we do here

No Attorney Required

This is one of the most common questions we get, and the answer is simple.

  • Yes, your child can receive care at our office without an attorney involved
  • Plenty of families come to us directly after a crash, before they’ve decided whether legal representation makes sense for their situation
  • We see them the same way we’d see any other new patient
  • Call 214-997-1220 or book online to schedule

Letters of Protection

For families who are working with an attorney, we accept Letters of Protection, known as LOPs, from patients represented by attorneys.

  • An LOP is an agreement that lets your child receive care now, with payment for that care addressed later as part of the claim process, rather than requiring payment up front
  • Bring any LOP paperwork to your first visit, or have your attorney’s office reach out to coordinate directly with ours
  • We are not attorneys and we don’t give legal advice
  • What we do is document care thoroughly, communicate clearly with your legal team about what we’re finding and treating, and focus on your child’s actual physical recovery while the legal and financial pieces move on their own track

Documentation Standards

Whether or not a claim is involved, we document every visit, exam finding, scan result, and care decision.

  • For families pursuing a claim, that record matters
  • For families who aren’t, it’s still the same standard: a clear, specific account of what we found and what we did about it, not vague notes that are hard to reconstruct later
  • We’ll never pad a chart or suggest more visits than the exam findings support
  • Our documentation reflects what we actually see in your child, because that’s the only kind of record that holds up and the only kind we’re willing to write

Common questions

Do I need a lawyer before bringing my child in?

No. Your child can receive care at our office without an attorney involved. Many families come to us directly after an accident and decide about legal representation separately, on their own timeline.

Do you accept Letters of Protection?

Yes, we accept LOPs from patients represented by attorneys. This allows your child's care to begin without payment collected up front, with the financial side handled through the claim process. Bring any LOP paperwork to the first visit, or have your attorney's office coordinate with ours directly.

My child says they feel fine. Should we still come in?

We'd encourage it, especially within the first couple weeks after any collision. Kids frequently under-report pain, and symptoms like sleep disruption, new clinginess, or headaches described as stomachaches often show up days after a crash rather than immediately.

What if my child needs care beyond what a chiropractor provides?

We have a network of pediatric providers we refer to when an exam finding points toward something outside chiropractic care. We'd rather refer out clearly than try to be the only answer for every finding.

How soon after the accident should we schedule?

As soon as you can, though there's no deadline you've missed if it's been longer. We see children days, weeks, or occasionally months after a motor vehicle accident, and the first visit is the same thorough process regardless of timing.

This page is educational and is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Chiropractic care does not treat or cure disease; it supports the function of the nervous system and spine. Please speak with your pediatrician or a licensed clinician about your family's specific situation, and seek immediate care for any urgent symptom.
