Newborn and infant concerns we see

Parents rarely book an infant visit over one symptom. They book because a whole day has stopped working — the evening crying that nothing interrupts, the side the baby refuses to feed on, the naps that end after twenty minutes. The pages below cover the newborn concerns families in Frisco bring us most often. All of them are approached the same way: an exam first, a plain answer about whether this is a mechanical pattern worth working with, and a referral to your pediatrician when it is not.

What Newborn Care Actually Involves

This is the gentlest work in the practice.

  • Contact is sustained fingertip pressure — roughly what you would use to check whether a tomato is ripe
  • Pressure is held against one area rather than moved quickly
  • No twisting and no popping, anywhere
  • Most of it happens while the baby is feeding, asleep on a parent, or draped over a shoulder, because a settled baby tells us more than a startled one
  • Parents stay in contact with their child through the entire visit
  • If a baby cannot be soothed enough for a useful exam, we stop and reschedule instead of pressing on

How We Decide Whether We Can Help

The first visit starts with your history and a hands-on exam, not with a care plan.

  • How the head and neck move: which side the baby favours, which one they resist
  • Whether the jaw and tongue move symmetrically during a feed
  • INSIGHT scanning for a non-invasive reading of how the nervous system is handling load — nothing injected, no radiation
  • Whether there is a mechanical restriction that matches the story you are telling
  • When the exam does not find one, that is the answer, and it is worth more to you than a care plan

When to Call Someone Else First

Chiropractic is not the first call for these. They belong to your pediatrician or an emergency room.

  • Fever in a newborn
  • Poor weight gain
  • Projectile vomiting
  • Blood in a diaper
  • A baby who has become unusually limp or hard to wake
  • Each condition page spells out its own version of this list in plain language rather than fine print
  • Feeding and sleep problems usually have several contributors at once — supply, tongue function, reflux management, sheer newborn chaos — and we work alongside the people already handling those, not in place of them

How These Visits Are Scheduled

Newborn work sits under our pediatric chiropractic care, and it is the gentlest care we provide.

  • Light sustained contact, usually while the baby is feeding or asleep on a parent
  • Siblings and parents can be seen at the same appointment
  • Every page in this group follows the same order: exam first, then a plain answer about whether this is a mechanical pattern worth working with
  • A referral back to your pediatrician when it is not
  • Frisco families most often bring us the newborn concerns listed above
  • If you are not sure which page fits, book the exam and we will sort it out in person

Common questions

How old is too young for a first visit?

Babies are seen within the first weeks of life. The younger the baby, the lighter and shorter the visit — newborn appointments are mostly history, observation and a few minutes of sustained contact.

Will my baby cry during the adjustment?

Some babies fuss because they are hungry, wet or simply awake and being held still by a stranger. The contact itself is light enough that many infants stay asleep through it. You are welcome to feed during the visit.

Do you work with our pediatrician and lactation consultant?

Yes, and we prefer it. Latch and feeding trouble in particular usually needs more than one set of hands, so we say plainly which part of the picture we are looking at and which part belongs to someone else.

This page is educational and is not medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Chiropractic care does not treat or cure disease; it supports the function of the nervous system and spine. Please speak with your pediatrician or a licensed clinician about your family's specific situation, and seek immediate care for any urgent symptom.
